Les peces fan de pont entre les primeres formes simb\u00f2liques i la representaci\u00f3 moderna. Mentre que els reis i les reines presenten elegants nivells tornejats i els cavalls estan representats com a caps de cavall esculpits, els rocs i els alfilers encara ressonen amb els seus predecessors medievals.
