Exemples gravats als s\u00f2ls de marbre de l'antiga ciutat d'Efes, especialment a les escales de la Biblioteca de Celso, documenten el paper central d'aquest joc en la vida quotidiana romana. Amb un tauler de tres files amb 12 caselles cadascuna, el joc consisteix en una cursa per moure les peces fins a la zona d'arribada utilitzant tres daus.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><b>L'ancestre del backgammon<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>Al llarg dels segles, la simplificaci\u00f3 de les seves regles i la transici\u00f3 a un format de dues files van donar lloc al joc conegut com a Tabula, el predecessor directe del backgammon modern.
