Centrada en el joc amb profunditat estrat\u00e8gica a l'ombra d'una tenda, aquestes dues figures representen una uni\u00f3 d'intel\u00b7lecte que transcendeix les fronteres socials i religioses de l'\u00e8poca. Reflex de la multicultural \u201cConvivencia\u201d d'Al-\u00c0ndalus, aquesta obra demostra que els escacs no eren nom\u00e9s un passatemps cortes\u00e0, sin\u00f3 un espai universal d'expressi\u00f3 on les dones mostraven la seva habilitat mental. En representar un musulm\u00e0 i un jueu que deixen de banda les barreres religioses i socials per enfrontar-se en una lluita mental, serveix de testimoni del poder secular i universal dels escacs. Les peces d'escacs representen el patrimoni cultural unificat de la Mediterr\u00e0nia, el nord d'\u00c0frica i l'Orient Mitj\u00e0, amb formes abstractes i geom\u00e8triques totalment despullades d'iconografia religiosa. Aquesta filosofia de disseny hol\u00edstic permet als jugadors centrar-se exclusivament en les regles del joc i en la intel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia de l'altre, convertint l'escacs en un terreny realment neutral.
