Fordi stykket hedder Top (som betyder \u201ckanon\u201d), opgiver mange regionale designs, s\u00e5som det ber\u00f8mte Subotica-s\u00e6t, de traditionelle brystv\u00e6rn p\u00e5 et slotst\u00e5rn. Mens den splittede top p\u00e5 den moderne l\u00f8ber ofte fejlagtigt tilskrives st\u00f8dt\u00e6nderne p\u00e5 gamle elefantbrikker, var det faktisk det traditionelle t\u00e5rn, der havde dette fremtr\u00e6dende hul mellem to h\u00f8je kanter. Shahrukh blev en vigtig m\u00e6cen for videnskab, kultur og kunst. Udtrykket \u201cRukh\u201d betyder krigsvogn og udviklede sig til \u201croca\u201d, der betyder t\u00e5rn p\u00e5 spansk og italiensk, hvilket p\u00e5virkede skakbrikkernes design.
