Ovaj fragment kocke iz bizantskog razdoblja, otkriven tijekom iskapanja u Yenikap\u0131ju u Istanbulu, dokazuje da je igra bila neizdvojiv dio \u017eivopisnog dru\u0161tvenog \u017eivota u drevnim lukama. Njegov potpuno sekularan, apstraktan i geometrijski oblik, oslobo\u0111en religijske ikonografije, u\u010dinio ga je univerzalnom platformom na kojoj su se ljudi razli\u010ditih vjeroispovijesti stolje\u0107ima susretali kroz zajedni\u010dka pravila. Epitet \u201cAr-Rumi\u201d simbolizira vi\u0161eslojno putovanje \u0161aha preko mediteranskog, sjevernoafri\u010dkog i bliskoisto\u010dnog bazena, isti\u010du\u0107i njegove povijesne veze s bizantskim svijetom. U ovom temeljnom djelu Al-Adli nije samo klasificirao po\u010detne postavke (tabiyas) i probleme zavr\u0161nice (mansubas), ve\u0107 je i postavio temelje moderne \u0161ahovske teorije kroz kolektivni intelekt ovog prostranog podru\u010dja.
