Alquerque, in detail beschreven in de pagina's, is de Europese evolutie van een oud strategiespel dat in de Arabische wereld bekend staat als \u201cEl-Qirkat\u201d, met wortels die teruggaan tot het oude Egypte. In het 13e-eeuwse Spanje was Alquerque een testament van hoe christelijke, islamitische en joodse geleerden samenwerkten om een brug te slaan tussen de kennis van het Oosten en het Westen.<\/p><p><b>De weg naar dammen<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>Alquerque, gespeeld met 12 stukken op een 5\u00d75 rooster, is de geboorteplaats van het \u201cspringende slaan\u201d mechanisme, dat de kernregel is van het moderne damspel. Aan het einde van de 15e eeuw, toen deze dynamische regels werden overgezet op het 8\u00d78 schaakbord, ontstond het damspel zoals we dat nu kennen.
