Em vez de uma modifica\u00e7\u00e3o posterior, essas pe\u00e7as foram produzidas na origem para serem neutras em termos de s\u00edmbolos. Elas foram trazidas para a Turquia por imigrantes turcos da Bulg\u00e1ria e rapidamente se tornaram um elemento b\u00e1sico da Associa\u00e7\u00e3o de Xadrez de Istambul (\u0130SD) ap\u00f3s 1965.
