Tento mramorov\u00fd fragment z byzantskej \u00e9ry, objaven\u00fd po\u010das vykop\u00e1vok v istanbulskom Yenikap\u0131, dokazuje, \u017ee t\u00e1to hra bola neoddelite\u013enou s\u00fa\u010das\u0165ou pulzuj\u00faceho spolo\u010densk\u00e9ho \u017eivota v starovek\u00fdch pr\u00edstavoch. Jej \u00faplne svetsk\u00e1, abstraktn\u00e1 a geometrick\u00e1 forma, bez n\u00e1bo\u017eenskej ikonografie, z nej urobila univerz\u00e1lnu platformu, kde sa \u013eudia r\u00f4znych vierovyznan\u00ed stret\u00e1vali prostredn\u00edctvom spolo\u010dn\u00fdch pravidiel po cel\u00e9 st\u00e1ro\u010dia. Pr\u00edvlastok \u201cAr-Rumi\u201d symbolizuje mnohovrstevnat\u00fa cestu \u0161achu naprie\u010d Stredomor\u00edm, severnou Afrikou a povod\u00edm Bl\u00edzkeho v\u00fdchodu a zd\u00f4raz\u0148uje jeho historick\u00e9 prepojenie s byzantsk\u00fdm svetom. V tomto z\u00e1sadnom diele Al-Adli nielen klasifikoval \u00favodn\u00e9 rozostavenia (tabiyas) a probl\u00e9my koncovky (mansubas), ale prostredn\u00edctvom kolekt\u00edvneho intelektu tohto rozsiahleho regi\u00f3nu polo\u017eil aj z\u00e1klady modernej \u0161achovej te\u00f3rie.
